Why do organizations in other countries have so few managers (at least in comparison to the U.S. and Canada)? Why do they pay them so little (both in comparison to U.S. managers and in comparison to the incomes of the non-managerial employees in the same firms)? Explain why organizational subcultures emerge and what effects they have on cultural strategies of organizing. Explain how the revolving door of federal hiring, in which politicians and regulators go to work for the organizations theyve been overseeing, and officers of organizations become regulators and legislators, has the effect of improving safety.
