On the one hand, we can see that local sourcing is, well, low cost. On the other hand, low cost sourcing approaches also can mean that higher tech sourcing strategies in other companies can produce a competitive advantage. We can use robots as an example. Germany is awesome at producing high-quality, high-tech robotics. China is also quite good at producing robotics as well, but these are lower cost and, sometimes, lower tech. From a sourcing standpoint, companies have to decide if they want higher tech (and higher cost) robotics in the supply chain.
