sometimes samples are sieved "dry" $($usually

samples that contain little in the way of fines$)$ and

sometimes samples are first washed through a fine

sieve $($usually #$200$ which has a nominal aperture

expensive #$325$ sieve$)$ to remove most of the fines

after which the samples are dried and then put

through the stack of sieves. Consider the two
