Question:
While conducting my needs analysis I was pleased to see that our work center had a high pass rate for inspections conducted by the quality assurance department. These rates demonstrate that our folks are good about performing their jobs in accordance with technical data as directed by our organization. When I performed reviews on our technicians' additional programs, they needed work. This surprised me because I assumed their high performance would continue in this scope of work as well.I was confident that our members were not being over tasked and should be able to maintain their programs at a high level as well.I was surprised at answers that were given when asked why the programs were not given the same focus as their primary job tasks. The additional job is not important, said one person and another member told me that it doesn't matter if those programs are kept current.I was confused, bothered, and angered at these statements. After taking time to think about these answers and why they had this mentality, I thought about explaining to them why it is important to keep these programs updated and why. So, this assessment did provide me new insights on projects that could be conducted like leadership development training for new work leaders. This supported the scope of my project because I am trying to understand where we are gaps are and how we can strengthen our team, which will improve our image as a high performing team. I think the better they understand the purpose behind the additional duties, the better they will focus on keeping the programs maintained at a level.(Dhingra, Samo, Schaninger, & Shrimper, 2021)
