While Xenophanes and David Hume argue that we cannot know God directly, but only know of Him, Saint Anselm and Thomas Aquinas argue, on the other hand, that God not only exists in reality but that His existence is self-evident. Which one of these two arguments grasps the concept of God in a more convincing way? Are these positions mutually incompatible, or do they in fact argue for the existence of a monotheistic God that may or may not be knowable
