Wireshark is a network packet analyzer. A network packet analyzer captures network packets and tries to display that packet data as detailed as possible. As mentioned in the lab experiment, sniffer can exploit information passed in plaintext, i.e. not encrypted. Examples of protocols which pass information in plaintext are Telnet, FTP, SNMP, POP, and HTTP.
