Objective: Discover effective ethical interpersonal communication skills. The purpose of this exercise is to help you discover effective interpersonal communication skills and determine how to implement them within an ethical framework. Leaders need to know what makes communication effective, especially when ethical issues are at stake.

The challenge is not simply how to communicate, but how to communicate from an ethical perspective. Makau (2012) provides good insight into the concept of ethical communication. "All communication . . . occurs within a context, including goals, means, and occasion. Ethical communication requires understanding of and responsiveness to each of these three key elements" (p. 2).
