Question: Workers at a mango sorting station have to unload kegs containing 10 kilos of mangoes unto a conveyor at the rate of 10 per hour.
Workers at a mango sorting station have to unload kegs containing 10 kilos of mangoes unto a conveyor at the rate of 10 per hour. The kegs have a round cross-section and have two handles attached on its opening (top) opposite each other. The kegs are about 18 inches high. The conveyor is 30 inches high. To unload the mangoes, the worker has to make a 90-degree twist while lifting the keg from the floor and then unloading the kegs contents when the top of the keg is at level with the conveyor. This job is performed regularly within an 8-hour shift which includes regular rest breaks. The horizontal distance of the keg from the worker is 20 inches at the start of the task and the conveyor is approximately 10 inches from the worker. Determine whether this job is stressful. Show computations of all multipliers, the RWL and LI. If the job is stressful, what changes may be made in the task or workstation design to make the job less stressful? The weight of the keg cannot be changed. THANKS!!
