Reference/context: this student is half white and half Asian. When growing up her teachers thought she couldn't read in English well due to her being Asian. So she was never allowed to read books with bigger words and had to stick with small books for beginners. her parents always wanted her to get good grades and wanted her in advanced classes when she got older but she couldn't due to her starting out a year behind her classmates every year. all of her friends were in advanced classes and reading big books like Harry Potter while she was stuck with smaller books like fancy Nancy or Dr sues books in the 4th grade. Growing up she was very insecure because she wasn't as far along as her friends and her classmates and it caused her to struggle later in life throughout high school and middle school. Because of this even today she struggles reading and writing because she was always a couple years behind on her reading and writing. because of this she had to work extra hard to learn things to catch up on that she never got taught in school.
