Elizabeth Phelps What Elements Must be Hard-wired for and Organization to Achieve Success? March 7, 2021 Implementing changes in an organization, even after defining a good strategy and structure can be challenging This happens because most organizations assume that the new organization will form on its own just by good design and clear guidance about goals and strategy. This is the reason why organizations fail to meet the goal When a new organization is created from an old one and the wiring that made the organization work is destroyed, it needs to be rebuilt Relationships, cultural norms and values are particularly important aspects for the smooth functioning of the organization. That is the reason why Leasers should focus more on the post-change rewiring process. There are four key elements of the re- wiring process: The first define new operating framework It helps in defining the responsibilities of the employees and provides guidance on coordinating their actions in order to achieve the goals. The second, the leaders should define and communicate their strategic intent. It is important for them to decide on the cultural values, goals and operating framework and communicating the same to the lower level The third, focus on the team acceleration: It is important for the leaders to ensure that the teams at every level, should use the same methodology, tools and language The fourth, it is often seen that most organizations fail because they fail to address the cultural issues. The culture compromises three levels: Language, how do they understand each other. Behavior, how the new organization staff behave in meetings. Value, is there any agreement on what creates and does not create value for them? Cultures can be shaped by other elements of the organization like strategy, structure, processes, incentives and examples. The leader should focus on creating a culture for a new organization as a re-wiring process. They need to be aware of it because that is something which will flow down through the organization. In an article from the book "Resiliency In Action: Practical Ideas for Overcoming Risks and Building Strengths in Youth, Families and Communities, the researchers tries to explore the argument, whether the individual learns to be more resilient or some are born with the ability to bounce back, due to adverse situations. The author believes that people are born with innate ability of making itself correct and on the other hand, the experience and adverse situation triggers their ability to bounce back. The author identifies four characteristics of resiliency building 1. Communicate "The Resiliency Attitude": This is a proactive strategy of communicating that may give positive strength. Being aware of the problem and drawing upon the strength will help the outcome. The Resiliency Attitude will also give others the same message. 2. Adopt a Strengths Perspective". It is more effective to focus on strength rather than giving importance to weakness. If anyone practices bringing their strength out, it will help them boost their capacity and lead to happiness and success. 3. Surround Each Person- as well as families and organizations with elements of the "Resiliency Wheel". The resiliency wheel is a fusion of environmental protecting condition that helps everyone in the loop. Here the researcher has identified six factors, which are highly effective in assisting families and organizations to bounce back from adverse situations. These factors are: Provide care and support Set high but realistic expectations for success Provide opportunities for "mcaningful contribution to others. Increase positive bonds and connection. Set and maintain clear boundaries. Develop needed life skill. 4. Give it Time: A good bounce back or resilient outcome needs time. It should not be expected overnight . . . These strategies are very helpful to come out of the dark and ensures strong bounce back after disaster
