Write a contract understanding that the importance of the assignment is detail to avoid ambiguity and misunderstanding. The contract must be clear. The way to avoid most disputes is to anticipate problems. Do not leave items, clauses, or requirements out of a contract because you think the subject is obvious. The cost of the extra ink you can afford, the additional legal fees from leaving out detail, you cannot.

When you believe your contract is final, re-read your contract carefully to see how can it be misinterpreted; then rewrite it. Furthermore, make sure the duties, obligations, and timelines are crystal clear think the contract through.

Whenever you are considering and or drafting a contract you should start by writing a checklist of the essential elements of the contract prior to reducing the agreement to the written document. Once the checklist is completed, you essentially have each clause in the contract. Now you need to carefully outline the specifics for that subject or clause. You would not just start writing a paper on Solar energy without your notes (at least I hope you wouldn't), nor should you draft a contract without using the checklist you prepared initially as your drafting guide.

The assignment is to write a contract for one of the two following situations:

-Picking up a disabled person to bring them shopping once per week.

Or

Walking someones dog daily.

--It is your responsibility to conceptualize all the variables that should be included in the contract including, but not limited to price, location etc.-Do not leave any blank spaces or items to be filled in, this is a final agreement.

You are also required to turn in the checklist. The checklist is your attempt to think through all potential variables that the contract will cover. A checklist should be created prior to drafting the contract. Turn both the contract and checklist into the dropbox as part of the assignment.

Students often ask how long does the paper (in this case the contract) have to be. Length itself is not a criteria, but as you should have understood from the on-line lecture and video, that the contract must be sufficiently detailed enough to cover all the possible misunderstandings, elements and ambiguities to make sure there is a clear, definitive outline of the all the responsibilities. Consequently, while I do not state an amount of pages or words that an assignment must be to be appropriate, I will carefully review the thought that goes into each paper. An easy way to get a lousy grade is to take the road of least resistance.
