I can relate to the issues facing the penguins in the sense that they represent common obstacles in any change process, such as resistance to change, the need for strong leadership, and the importance of a clear vision. The penguins' journey highlights the necessity of recognizing the need for change, building a coalition to guide the transformation, and maintaining momentum through early wins. The story serves as a valuable reminder that change is inevitable and requires proactive and strategic efforts to navigate successfully.

A great example that comes to mind is back in my undergraduate days. I was the president of a fraternity, and the fraternity had experienced a few years of low recruitment numbers. The fraternity house was well below capacity and the chapter was not on a good trajectory. The fraternity national leadership called to warn me that if membership did not improve and we started filling the house to capacity, we were at risk of losing the house. Following the principles of this book, I presented this information to the chapter to create a sense of urgency for the change that was needed so we didn't lose our home. The leadership team developed strategies to boost morale and recruitment which resulted in small initial victories. These changes created a new trajectory that led the fraternity to exceed its recruitment expectations and save the house.
