write a reply to the following post. "I do not believe that juvenile courts should have trials by juries. It makes it very difficult to keep the jury impartial when determining a juvenile's guilt. It would also not be beneficial to have juries of their peers, as a majority would not be old enough to sit on a jury. Juvenile courts are focused on rehabilitation and being informal. Adding a jury to that would require it to be more like an adult criminal court. "The concern is that adult jurors may hold negative attitudes about youth that might influence their decision making in a case involving a young defendant." (Warling & Peterson-Badali, 2003) Juvenile courts need to remain focused on guiding and treatment programs rather than placing a juvenile in detention or jail for long periods of time. A judge who presides over juveniles is aware of all the different programs that can be offered, whereas an adult judge who does not normally work with juveniles is not
