Currently, leaders often rely on anecdotal advice or implement low-investment, superficial strategies like the "pizza parties" my interview participants described that fail to address the core drivers of turnover. Reflecting on this journey, two components of the doctoral research process have stood out as most important to me as an independent scholar. The first isalignment. The relentless focus on ensuring the business problem, purpose statement, and research question are in perfect sync was a crucial lesson. This isn't just academic box-checking; it is the architectural blueprint for the entire study. A perfectly aligned project is focused, feasible, and credible from the start. The second component isrigorous analysis. My "aha" moment in this course was learning how a systematic process like thematic analysis can transform subjective human stories into objective, defensible themes. This process is the engine that converts raw data into trustworthy evidence. As noted by Ravitch and Carl (2021), the credibility of qualitative findings depends on this kind of systematic, transparent process. Together, alignment and rigorous analysis are the two pillars that elevate a practitioner's good idea into a scholar's credible solution (Yin, 2018).
