Write about two incidents in which someone was an effective manager or leader over you. The leader or situation might be from work, a sports team, a student workgroup, or any other setting where leadership might emerge. Each incident should state the actual behaviors that the leader used, not just general statements (e.g., "My boss sat down with me and we agreed on specific targets and deadlines, then said several times over the next few weeks that I was capable of reaching those goals.") Each incident only requires a few sentences.

1. Which path-goal theory leadership style(s) did the leader apply to this incident?

2. Discuss within the thread the conditions that made this leadership style appropriate in this situation.

The group within the thread of the discussion should agree upon the contingency factors associated with the situation and, where possible, connect them to the contingencies described in path-goal theory.

Critique the diagnosis:

Review the agreed-upon leadership style and contingencies of an incident to a different thread. Explain why or why not you think they were correct in their diagnosis. Present and discuss any contingencies that you feel were not identified for the situation.
