Text: For this activity I decided to complete the activism of being a gender traitor for a day. In this case everyone was used to look at me with feminine dresses, makeup done and my hair arranged. I used to not engage myself with sports since most of the time I need to prioritize my work over anything else, but it is something I like, enjoy but no one knows about my passion for it. The day I decided to present myself with no makeup on, my hair in a ponytail and my cloth for sports my family was surprised since it was an activity that I haven't done since I was in high school and it was a daily routine for me to get ready and fancy with my look for college. All my friends asked me if I had plans after school when looking at me differently than most of the days. I never gave them any details if I had plans, just observed how we are used to adapt ourselves to nothing new but our typical daily appearance. By engaging in this activity helped me challenge societal expectations and promote a more inclusive understanding of gender. It gave me the opportunity for me as an individual to express myself without the constraints of traditional gender roles, fostering authenticity and confidence. Also, I had the chance to create and share more empathy for those who face discrimination or prejudice for not conforming to gender norms, helping build a more accepting society between my friends. I connect this experience with the term we have learned in the past chapter, which is intersectionality. It examines how various social identities such as race, gender, sexuality, class, and ability intersect and impact individual's experiences of privilege and oppression. By engaging in activities that defy gender norms, it can foster solidarity among diverse groups. It can create opportunities for dialogue and collaboration among people with different identities who share a common goal of challenging societal norms, intersectionality and courage. A broader understanding of social structures such as patriarchy, racism and classism interact to shape individual experiences. Recognizing these interactions can lead to more effective advocacy and support for those who face multiple layers of discrimination. Overall, it was a different activity which made me reflect on how different our identities, beliefs, and values are.
