Writing an abstract for a research study:
Help with writing an abstract: I starred** the pieces I need help with.
Abstract:
Background
Fruit and vegetable consumption of college students has been examined in previous studies. It is known that fruit and vegetable consumption can have academic and health benefits. Objective This study aimed to measure fruit and vegetable intakes among college students and to explore the association between these intakes and self-rated health scores. The hypothesis was that an increase in consumption would correlate with higher self-rated health scores.
Design
A cross-sectional observational study was conducted. Participants completed an online survey, which included the NCI's All-day Fruit and Vegetable Screener and a self-rated health questionnaire. Participants/setting
The study recruited 22 participants, with 21 involved in the analysis. Participants were students from various universities, colleges, and community colleges. The study was conducted in March 2024 through an emailed survey. Some students were recruited on Eastern Michigan University's campus, while others were reached through personal connections.
Main outcome measures ** **Note the primary outcome measure as planned before data collection began; if the hypothesis being reported was formulated during or after data collection, this information should be clearly stated.
Statistical analyses performed**
Correlation statistics were performed using t-tests.
Results**
Study found no association between fruit and vegetable intakes and self-rated health scores.
**Identify study results related to the main outcome. Describe other relevant findings of the study including numerical values, as needed.
Conclusion **
**Offer key conclusion(s) on the basis of evidence provided by the study.
Study Info:
1. List your research question(s) and study aims.
Research question:Is fruit and vegetable intake related to higher perceived self-health ratings in college aged adults?
Study aim(s):(1) to measure fruit and vegetable intake in college aged adults. (2) to understand the association between intakes of fruits and vegetables and self-health ratings.
2. How did you obtain the data? Data was collected through an online survey that was emailed to participants. The survey asked questions regarding demographics, fruit and vegetable intake and self rated health scores. Fruit and vegetable intake was recorded using the National Cancer Institute All Day Fruit and Vegetable Screener. Health scores were recorded using the Self-Rated Health questionnaire.
