have learnt so far, answer the following questions about the business of Edmund Furniture

Manufacturing Pte Ltd located in Sungai Kadut which includes the design and manufacture

of furniture using laminated and solid wood.

The built$-$in cupboard and other cabinets are custom built. Solid wooden furniture such as

cupboard, tables, and chairs are of standard design.

Plywood is the primary base material for built$-$in cupboard and cabinets. The plywood is

sawn to sizes using industrial sawing machines. The sawing process generates a considerable

amount of noise and saw dust. The noise from the sawing process is emitted to the

surrounding environment of Edmund Furniture Manufacturing Pte Ltd$.$ The dust generated in

the sawing process is captured by a dust collector to prevent it from being emitted to the

exterior environment. A gluing process is used for laminating the veneer to the plywood.

Steam and pressure are applied to the veneer to hold the veneer in place to prevent

delamination of the veneer from the plywood.

For the solid wooden furniture such as cupboard, table, and chairs, they are made of hard

wood, typically teak. Individual pieces of the wood are cut to size using industrial saws. The

sawing process generates a considerable amount of noise that is emitted to the surrounding

environment. The various pieces are then assembled together to build the cupboard, table,

chairs, etc before the finished product is sent to the sanding operation for sanding to provide a

smooth finish. The final process is the application of lacquer to the finished product.

The empty cans of glue, lacquer, thinner, saw dust, and any other hazardous wastes are

collected in dumbs to be disposed by licenced collectors.
