Question:
You are hired as a database designer and your first project is to design a database related to Mathematical equations and formulas repository. The database must be able to record all equations and formulas and then generate useful information such as total visits, total equations, and formulas views, and many more. The database will be used mainly by the students. Student details that need to be recorded are student number, full name, and password. Each student belongs to a specific program in the university. The program details that should be recorded include program code and program name. Equations and formulas will be inserted by the administrators. The administrator details are full name and password. Each administrator has his/her own unique identification number. Mathematical equations and formulas have two major areas namely Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. These two major areas must be kept in the database. Each major area has many branches, and a specific branch belongs to one major area only. Data on mathematic branch are branch identification number and branch title. Examples of mathematic branches for Pure Mathematics are Number Theory, Algebra, and Geometry while examples of Applied Mathematics are Calculus, Statistics and Probability and also Trigonometry. Equation and formula belong to a branch and a branch has many equations and formulas. Details about equations and formulas are its unique identification number, title, and description. Each equation and formula might have at least one reference file, and a reference file belongs to one equation and formula only. Every time administrator inserts new equation and formula, the database must keep the administrator unique identification number as well. The database must keep login records belong to student. The login details are student number, login date and time and also logout date and time. Every time student views any equation and formula, the database must record the viewing details such as student number, unique identification number belongs to equation and formula and also view date and time.
a) Based on the above requirements, create a complete Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) using Crow’s Foot model that shows all entities, attributes, relationship, and connectivity. (18 marks)
