You may select to write one case study instead of completing an exam. Each case study option presents a management scenario designed to provide you with issues, problems, and choices faced by nonprofit professionals in the field. Your answer requires you to come up with solutions and propose actions using the information provided in the case and ground your solution in the theories, best practices and concepts learned during the course. If you select to write a case paper you must choose from one of the following topics: 1. Central Asia Institute - Greg Mortenson/Three Cups of Tea Scandal 2. The United Way - William Aramony Scandal 3. Second Mile - Jerry Sandusky Scandal 4. Angel Food Ministries - Wesley Joseph Wingo and Sons Scandal You should research on their selected organization in the following areas and provide a brief background about their agency on the following areas: Mission, purpose, values, programs and services offered etc. Organizational Structure The issue or issues that led to the ethical dilemma that the agency is facing The lessons that other nonprofits can learn from the agency experiencing the ethical dilemma(s) How the issues have affected the nonprofit world in general (repercussions, new policies, new requirements, etc.) The case study paper should include the following sections (feel free to use subheadings to help with organization): Introduction: An introduction that introduces the paper and incorporates a thesis statement Case Summary: A brief synopsis of the case (i.e., overview of the case) - limited to 2 paragraphs Situational Analysis: Brief agency profile i.e., information about the organization, including its mission, a little about its history, etc. A well-thought out analysis of the identified problems/situation. Your analysis should demonstrate your ability to apply appropriate class concepts to the situation and the ability to identify the overarching situation/problem. Recommendations: Your paper should incorporate the class readings, at minimum (outside sources are welcomed) to identify 2 to 3 recommendations that discuss how they would be used to prevent the issue/s from occurring in another nonprofit organization. The pros and cons of each recommendation must be discussed for full points Conclusion: Summary paragraph(s) Remember, there are no "right" answers to problems presented and no "correct" way of thinking about or analyzing the situation. Papers will be graded on your ability to provide supporting evidence for your recommendations (i.e., ability to integrate concepts, theories, models, and best practices related to nonprofit management accurately). You are responsible for researching information related to the nonprofit.
