You will be needed to conduct research for the Position Essay. The sources may come from databases, journals, or other written publications directly related to your focus. Each source must be credible and timely (written and published within the past ten years).

You will be needed to locate a minimum of five (5) sources for the annotated bibliography, though you may choose to not use all of these sources in your Position Essay. You may also need to seek out additional sources as you write the essay. If so, additional annotations for those sources are not required. Remember, any sources cited in the essay will need to be listed on the final referenc page.

What is the goal of an Annotated Bibliography?

The goal of an annotated bibliography is to learn about your topic, especially when preparing for a research project. Collecting sources for a bibliography is useful, but when you have to write annotations for each source, you will be requireing to read each source more carefully.

Writing an annotated bibliography can help you gain a good perspective on what is being "said" about your topic; in other words, what are the "conversations" taking place/surrounding your chosen topic?

you be creating an annotated bibliography for five (5) of your sources. You will do the following for each source:

1. Citation: The citation provides the bibliographic information for the source being cited. Each citation should include the author(s), title, publication date, and other relevant publication information and should be formatted using APA guidelines.
2. Summary: The annotation begins with a summary of the source. Summarize the main points presented in the source, focusing on key ideas and evidence provided by the author(s).
3. Evaluation: Next, assess the credibility of each source. Some questions to answer: Does it seem like a reliable and current source? Why? Is the research biased or objective? Are the facts well documented? Who is the author? Is the author credible?
4. Reflection: Lastly, reflect on how you can use information from this source in your research essay. Has the source changed how you think about the topic? How does the source contribute to the broader conversation on the topic?
