You will be using a slitfilm plate that contains diffraction gratings to determine the wavelength of a red diode laser. The manufacturer says their laser has a wavelength of 650 20 nm. The slitfilm grating is crude and doesn't contain many lines in its gratings; however with care decent results may be obtained. Setup Procedure: 1. Place the laser on one side of the slitfilm plate, aiming the laser towards the wall and away from the eyes. 2. Place a screen one meter on the other side of the slitfilm plate, this is L. 3. Aim the laser through the middle of the top grating of the slitfilm plate. This grating is C-5 on the slitfilm plate and has a distance between the slits on the grating d = 0.176 mm. See the Schematic (use the top right "cal" symbol to orient the slit plate). 4. Place an index card on the screen and mark the location of as many of the equally spaced maxima (red dots) as you can.
