You will develop a use case model for the process your team has been assigned to. You will enumerate for each use case whether it is creating, reading updating or deleting data.
Melville Hospital in Melville Wisconsin is among the last of the independent rural hospitals.
Hospital supplies ordered by the purchasing staff include everything from mattresses and linens to medical equipment, syringes and food. Some products are under warranty and some are not; some products are purchased individually and some must be purchased from the vendors in specific batch lot sizes. Some vendors accept electronic orders via EDI/XML but many still have to be phoned or faxed. Pharmaceutical supplies are under a completely separate (& highly regulated) order process and therefore are not at all part of the regular hospital supply purchasing process.
Most (but not all) ordered items will be stored in the hospital supplies warehouse this results in a good receipt and putaway; a few products (such a replacement mattress or replacement medical device) may be released directly to one of the hospitals clinics.
Terms of payment are determined by the vendors.
When one of the clinics in the hospital runs out of a medical supply (like syringes) the clinic administrator will issue a transfer order to the hospital warehouse to release some of that product and send it upstairs (i.e. an internal order pick and a goods issue to that clinic).
Melville is attempting to install SAP ERP MM (Materials Management) and Warehouse Management (WM) in order to automate and revamp its purchasing processes for Hospital supplies.
