Your assignment this week is to create a behaviorally-anchored rating scale for the "position" of Project Team Member. You may draw on your experience working on project teams in either a school or a work setting.

At the end of the assignment, you should have an evaluation form that team members could use to evaluate each others' performance.

Your behaviorally-anchored rating scale (BARS) must meet the following requirements:

  • Must evaluate five distinct behaviors (see below for suggestions)
  • Must provide specific definitions of each level of performance for each behavior.

Desired Behaviors for Member of Class Project Team:

  • Dependability
  • Communication
  • Creativity
  • Contribution
  • Work Ethic
  • Demeanor, Attitude
  • Initiative

You may add additional behaviors, combine those listed above, or change the behaviors in any other way you choose, provided that your final performance evaluation has at least 5 behaviors.

The specific requirements of the assignment are to:

  • Identify what you believe are the most important behaviors for project team members (remember, you must choose a MINIMUM of five).
  • Develop a rating scale that will be used for all criteria. Will you have 5 categories? 3?4? Will they be labeled with numbers, words, or a combination? (See examples on following page.)
  • Define specific behavioral anchors for each of your behaviors.
  • Put your BARS into a form that could actually be used by team members to rate each other.
  • Submit your completed form in .doc or .pdf format to the drop box by the assignment due date.
