Your background should present data on the problem to provide context. This means a description Planned Parenthood and its services, volumes, and costs. It's available, I promise, though you might have to dig for it. Past students have provided Baltimore specific data, Maryland data, or national PP data to extrapolated Maryland/Baltimore estimates. Where possible you should include: a breakdown on race/ethnicity, sex, age, socio-economic status, insurance status, language, costs, etc. basically whatever data/statistics you can find to paint the picture of what's happening around your ED and to your patients. These data should also help inform your strategies to address the problem later in the paper (e.g., if your neighborhood has a high number of non-English speakers, perhaps you need to ensure you have adequate translator and interpretation services available in your ED)
