Question:
Your firm has a new client, Viraj Kumar. On August 12, 2022 he went to the TCB Memphis Grille, a restaurant located within the City of Edmonton. He intended to get seated a table, to be joined by his girlfriend after she got off of work. Viraj explained that he arrived at the restaurant just before 5:00. An older Caucasian couple entered just before him and were seated immediately. While he waited for the hostess to return, a Caucasian male who appeared to be a manager in the restaurant approached Viraj and told him there wasn't any room tonight. Viraj pointed out all the empty tables, and the manager replied, "There's no room for you tonight", emphasizing the word "you". Viraj left to the parking lot, where he waited for his girlfriend to arrive. They agreed on a different restaurant and continued their evening.
Viraj wants to make a complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission ("AHRC") about his treatment at the TCB Memphis Grille. Mary Nowak, the lawyer in charge, believes he has a good complaint for discrimination on the basis of ethnicity. Mary has asked you to prepare the forms needed to make such a complaint and to fill them out as fully as possible given the above information."
Question Below;
Is the AHRC the correct agency to file this complaint in Alberta? If so, what forms must be filled out and why?
