Your organization, Intelcom, is a medium-sized telecom company based in Toronto, Canada. Intelcom has always promoted existing employees into positions of senior management. Your organization has recently experienced substantial growth and you have found it necessary to recruit and appoint new hires directly into senior management positions as you do not have enough existing qualified employees to fill these positions.

Although the organization continues to be successful, you find that overall employee motivation is decreasing amongst employees who have been with the organization for a longer period of time. The Managers in the organizations arent skilled at keeping motivation up and identifying the factors related to high performance to help their teams.

The managers in the organizations identified some of the underlying problems as a lack of understanding how their own perceptions and biases impact how they view these new employees, and how Managers make decisions around their motivation and performance. The organization is in desperate need of your help to better understand performance and motivation at work. They are quite worried that due to low motivation, their longer-term employees may leave the company, which would be very costly and lose the organisational memory that they have established.

As an organizational behaviour specialist within your HR department, you have been selected to help the organization get a better understanding of motivation, and performance at work. You decide to put on a training seminar to explain some of the important aspects of management, to address some of their concerns.
