Company's Compensation/Total Rewards Issues/Top Priorities:

You have recently been hired as the Director of Total Rewards for a call center that employs approximately 350 people. During your first week, you meet with the VP of HR to discuss the main priorities for the position. Among the items listed as top priority were the following:

  1. Expansion Initiatives: The current plan is to add 50 new call center representatives and 7 new supervisors within the next 9 months to account for new business partners utilizing their services.
  2. Turnover for Call Center Representatives: While turnover has always been somewhat problematic, there has been a 10% increase in turnover for the past two months. The turnover report is listed below.
  3. Competitors: A number of employers in the local area have begun advertising starting pay for customer service representatives that is $1-$3 an hour more than what our organization offers for similar positions. The average salary for various positions is listed below.
  4. Employee Engagement Survey: The most recent survey results indicated that the highest area of dissatisfaction was due to a lack of development and promotional opportunities. The second highest area had to do with the pay system. There were numerous comments regarding performance not being rewarded. The current practice for pay increases is an annual cost of living adjustment that is given for all hourly positions and salaried positions below the Executive level.
  5. Employee Benefits: The rising cost of health care is a major concern and recent increases will mean that some type of budget cuts will need to be made for the upcoming year.
  6. Other Information: A four-year degree is required for all managerial positions and Health/Dental Insurance will go from 8% to 9% of the Benefit Budget in the following year, the overall budget of 31% will remain the same.
