Your Task

You have been commissioned by your client to analyse the process for applying to the Master of Management Information Systems at ECU.

Instructions

  • Based on the data you collected, develop the current "AS-IS" process models in BPMN 2.0 using a relevant drawing tool (e.g. Visio and Signavio).
  • To present the "AS-IS" process models, you should first understand the current processes and construct the process models which should include both the main process and sub-process models (at least two sub-processes).
  • Each diagram should occupy no more than one page. To make models readable, you need some sub-processes. However, how many sub-processes you need depends on your model design. You can have sub-processes in the main process, and also sub-processes inside of sub-processes. It can be multi-layered.
  • You are allowed to make reasonable assumptions based on your experience and research. All assumptions have to be clearly explained.
  • Carefully review the diagrams developed, and identify and analyse problems/issues/bottlenecks of the current processes by:
    • Creating an issue register for the processes with 3 issues/problems/bottlenecks (using the following format).
    • Create a Fishbone diagram to investigate different causes for the 3 issues/problems/bottlenecks (using the following format).
  • Using the above findings as input, choose and state a suitable improvement direction using devil's quadrangles (using the following format).
  • Identify suitable improvement heuristics for the highlighted/circled process areas based on your improvement direction.
  • Based on the analysis obtained, develop a "TO-BE" Model in BPMN 2.0 using a relevant drawing tool (e.g. Visio and Signavio).
  • Bear in mind, all possible changes to the current business processes must add value to their processes in terms of efficiency and effectiveness as compared with the existing model.
  • Each diagram should occupy no more than one page. To make models readable, you need some sub-processes. However, how many sub-processes you need depends on your model design. You can have sub-processes in the main process, and also sub-processes inside of sub-processes. It can be multi-layered.
