You've been exposed to basic switching and now in this class, we're going to look at some more advanced features of switches that have been developed in approximately the past $10$ years. Switches are so powerful they're almost like small$-$scale routers. In fact, they do a lot of Layer $3$ activities. Give a couple of examples of Layer $3$ functions you might expect to find on a switch and describe them in common terms you might use to talk to a non$-$networking person. For example, a down port might be like a locked door on the supermarket.
