This chapter suggested that during implementations of such new evaluation programs, it is important to execute them “from the ground up.” In other words, it is important to get the buy-in from the weathermen on the performance levels and effectiveness values before forcing the criteria upon them. If you help make the criteria their ideas, they will be more likely to adopt the ideas.

a. Would the weathermen accept the dimensions of performance as you have created them? Assume their compensation is tied to their performance evaluation. Do the weathermen have incentive to “dumb down” your performance level criteria? Will they say your evaluation standards are unrealistic? How can you know for sure?

b. What will you do to get their buy-in in such a circumstance? If you dumb it down, the news station loses.

If it is deemed impossible to achieve by the weathermen, they may become unmotivated and may not buy in. How do you compromise in this situation to implement the program successfully?
