Clinicians are having difficulty in distinguishing between two forms X and Y of a rare blood disease. Certain cells in the blood can be classified as being one of three different types A, B, C and the clinicians hope that this information may help with this form of differential diagnosis. These proportions have been determined for forty patients, 20 of each form, as they have come into the clinic, and are set out below.
