The Harris Poll conducted an online survey of parents of children who play sports for TD Ameritrade (April 2019). Over half of the 1,001 parents interviewed were highly hopeful or certain their sportsplaying child would secure a college athletic scholarship. In actuality, only 110 of the 1,001 sports parents interviewed in 2019 had children that eventually earned an athletic scholarship. For comparison purposes, the study reported that 250 of the 1,001 parents surveyed three years earlier had children who eventually earned a college athletic scholarship. One objective is to estimate the percentage reduction in sports-playing children who earned a college athletic scholarship over the 3 years, i.e., estimate the difference between the percentage of sports-playing children in 2019 who earned a college athletic scholarship to the corresponding percentage in 2016.
