1: Decide how many intervals (k) you wish to use. One reasonable convention suggests that the number of intervals should be about 10. Many research situations may require fewer than 10 intervals (k = 10), and it is common to find frequency distributions with as many as 15 intervals. Only rarely will more than 15 intervals be used, since the resultant frequency distribution would be too large for easy comprehension.
