Box 20.5 suggests the possibility of relying on vegetation to mitigate industrial air pollution. Suppose that a manufacturing site wishes to get credit for the air quality regulation ecosystem service provided by the vegetation on its own site. Answer the following questions for this TES system. 

1. Since there is no way to guarantee that the molecules of air emissions taken up by the trees are the same as those emitted by the process, should the manufacturing process be allowed to claim credit for the pollutant uptake by the trees on its site? 

2. If the site is in a temperate region, deciduous trees lose their leaves during the winter, along with their capacity to take up emissions. Suggest ways of operating the manufacturing process in the presence of this intermittency of nature.
