Consider the coal to electricity process that we studied in the previous chapter. Calculate the industrial CDP and the ecological CDP for this process and compare the results with those from energy analysis. As shown in Figure 13.5 this process has outputs of 524 MW electricity, 62 MW flue gas, and 11 MW waste heat. Extracting 100 MJ of coal requires 6 MJ of fuel exergy, and 13 MW of make-up water. The exergy input required per megawatt of make-up water is negligible.
