Question:
Evaluate the approach of inclusive wealth using the six requirements for sustainability assessment listed in Box 3.3.
Box 3.3:

BOX 3.3 Requirements for Sustainability Assessment Methods [15] 1. Account for the demand of ecosystem goods and services. The goods and services extracted by human activities from nature need to be quantified for sustainability assessment. Goods include water, minerals, and sunlight, while services include carbon sequestration, pollination, and air quality regulation. 2. Account for the supply of ecosystem goods and services. Accounting for the capacity of ecosystems to supply the goods and services that are demanded is needed to satisfy the requirement of staying within nature's carrying capacity as articulated in most definitions of sustainability. 3. Consider multiple spatial scales. The effect of decisions meant to enhance sustainability should be considered across spatial scales. For a technological system, this requires a consideration of the processes in its life cycle, all the way from extraction of resources, to manufacturing, use, and end of life. Effects on the largest scales, such as that of the planet, also need to be considered. 4. Consider temporal interactions. Over time, new technologies tend to become more efficient owing to advances in manufacturing and the benefits of large-scale production. The availability of resources may also change due to depletion, competing demands, etc., as may the capacity of ecosystems to absorb impact and provide resources. New policies may also be developed because of societal change. Thus, sustainability assessment needs to consider such changes over time and issues of intergenerational equity.
