You must time the filling of four cups or more. A calibrated milk jug with the top cut off works well. Do not use a one- or two- cup measurement. Use a spreadsheet for the calculations below and include a printed copy of the spreadsheet with your homework. Write the equations that you used for each calculation on the spreadsheet.

A. Make three measurements from the sink and average. Make three measurements from the shower and average. List all data in your homework solution. You could make these measurements with one other person. Indicate the location where you made the measurements (name of dormitory or apartment). If you make measurements with another person, include their name.

B. Find the volume flow rate from the sink and the volume flow rate from the shower in units of gal/min, ft³/s, and m³/s.

C. Calculate the mass flow rate in kg/s and lbm/s.

D. If the inflow pipe is 1/200 id (inner diameter) find the average velocity in each pipe in units of mph, ft/s, and m/s.

E. Compare these water velocities to your values in Problem 3.76 (if assigned). Is the water velocity in the pipe similar to walking speeds, bicycle speeds, or highway speeds?
