I stumbled across this textbook when my professor dropped it on us last month, saying we had to get it for the class. I found a discounted version, which felt like a lucky break cuz textbooks these days can be crazy pricey. What really hooked me was Chapter 5, which focused on identity in leadership—a topic I hadn’t really thought about deeply before. Up until then, I was struggling to connect the whole leadership concept with who you are as a person, and it all felt sorta abstract. But getting into that chapter was cool—the writing pulls you in and somehow makes you rethink what being a leader means. There’s this wake-up moment when the chapter explains how your sense of self actually shapes your leadership style without you even realizing it. I remember thinking, “wait, so leadership isn’t just what you do, it’s also who you actually believe you are?” That made everything I’d read before click into place. Plus, I tried applying one example about identity-driven feedback during a group presentation we had. Instead of just giving surface comments, me and my teammates used reflection questions adapted from the book, and it changed how we understood each other. It was a small thing but felt real. If I’m honest, some concepts got dense at times—not gonna lie, needed to reread parts to get them—but the examples helped a lot. It’s not like a textbook that’s all boring definitions, thankfully. The style feels approachable but challenges you too, which is neat. For anyone curious about going beyond the typical leadership stuff, this book’s a pretty awesome find and definitely worth grabbing if you can get a deal like me. It’s unlike other leadership texts I've seen so far, and getting into that identity idea felt like leveling up my understanding.

Was super pumped to get this book on discount but when it showed up the box basically looked like it had been left outside during a storm. corners all soggy and the cardboard falling apart. luckily pages were okay but still annoying to get my hands on a book in that condition.

Overall a solid read that bridges the gap between theoretical frameworks and practical leadership tactics. Learned a lot. Though it would've been nice if it came with a digital access code. Got extra discount with my membership!
