Grateful to have received this for free – a solid find for my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre coursework. I started reading a bit and it feels well organized with clear explanations. The quality and layout make it an easy reference, definitely something I’ll keep coming back to.

I was excited to get this book since it came through free, which was a nice bonus. The content dives deep into the history and significance of American musicals, making it a solid choice for my coursework. The layout is clear, and the photos add a lot of value. Shipment was quick, and the book arrived in excellent condition. My only minor gripe is I wished there was a bit more on recent developments in Broadway, but overall it met my expectations. Definitely worth having as a reference for anyone interested in musical theater.

I stumbled on this Broadway book while trying to find something decent for my theatre class that wouldn’t put me to sleep. It being free hooked me in, but I wasn’t sure if it’d actually be useful. So far, though, the chapter on the Golden Age of Broadway grabbed me more than I expected. It breaks down that whole era with nice storytelling and details I hadn’t really seen before.
What surprised me was how this chapter wove in social and cultural shifts along with the musical stuff. It gave me a new perspective on why shows back then took certain forms or had certain themes. Honestly, it was sort of like a lightbulb moment—reading that made me appreciate things on stage way more.
I took some stuff from that chapter straight into my class discussion and it impressed my professor, probably because I tied history to the shows in a better way than usual. One thing I kinda wish, though, was that the chapter had a few more pictures or visual timelines — that would've made it easier to put everything in context quick.
Really, though, this book is a cool piece of study material and being free was sweet. I do think it’s more geared toward people who want a decent overview without extra fluff, and if you want deep bios and fancy research footnotes you might want something else. But as a paper companion and to get some straight-up facts at college pace, it’s pretty solid.
Totally recommend it for anyone who’s struggling to link history and current musical theatre work, it’s a friendly intro. The 3rd edition definitely has some nice updates too so I guess yeah, especially if you can get it free like I did, what’s not to like?

So this book landed in my hands free for my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre studies and it’s been a decent help so far. i’ve only gotten a few chapters in but it breaks things down in a way that doesn’t feel overwhelming or boring, which is awesome. the print and pics seem clear enough to keep me interested without flipping back and forth too much. it showed up super quick and looked new, which was a total win. i’m no pro on musicals yet but this kinda makes the history stuff easier to understand, i’ll keep using it as i go.

Needed this for my New York University class and got it free which was pretty awesome. Haven’t gone through all of it yet but so far the chapters I read really helped me make sense of the whole Broadway history stuff without feeling overwhelmed. It’s easy to read and the pics make it less boring. The print looks good and feels like something I’ll refer back to when studying. Could use a bit more recent Broadway bits but hey, for free it’s a nice addition to my library.

Grabbed this free for my MUS 2210: History of American Musical Theatre course and it showed up quicker than I thought. book looks crisp, pages feel solid—not flimsy or anything. haven’t dug into much yet but like the feel of it so far and I’m hoping it makes the concepts stick better than my notes. It’s got a chill vibe and not dense like some textbooks, which helps during my quick study sessions between classes. surprised it came totally free too, that’s always a bonus when you need to save money. gonna keep this handy since the layout seems pretty easy to follow.
