Picked this up free for my Bachelor of Science in Accounting course and it's pretty nice so far. Just started looking through it, seems clear enough and the layout is easy on the eyes, which helps when you're tired. Book itself is solid, would say worth checking out.

So the package went on a wild trip from NY to California and bounced back again—don’t get the logic. Tracking was all over the place and it’s still not here after days, pretty frustrating. At least it’s free, but seriously, how does a book do me like this?

I stumbled on this free textbook because my professor suggested it for the tax class, and wow, Chapter 10 on Capital Gains really clicked for me. Before this book, the whole tax gain/loss concept was such a headache. Felt like I was reading gibberish in other texts, but this chapter busted through that noise. It broke down short-term vs long-term holding periods with examples that made it stick in my brain. Reading through the drill on calculating the gain basis helped me actually understand what to do when talking about selling stock in real life. Like when my aunt asked me how it worked because she sold some investments recently, I was able to explain it to her without totally freaking out. Honestly, I never thought federal tax rules could be less intimidating, but this chapter at least took some dents out of that. One thing that's a bit annoying is the dry tone sometimes—it gets kinda dense and you gotta reread it slow to get everything. A couple of diagrams would help instead of long paragraphs wall-of-text style. But I liked how the examples touched on real situations — it felt like I wasn’t just cramming theory for tests. All in all, this book has been pretty solid so far. Getting it for free made it feel like finding a cheat code for accounting class. If you find tax rules confusing, especially stuff around investment gains, give this chapter a glance. It really did make tricky topics way easier to understand and helped me keep up in class better.
