Hunting for a textbook that wouldn’t feel like a total drag, I stumbled across this modern edition at a sweet discount and thought, why not? I’m juggling school stuff and honestly, the pace can get rough, so finding something that kinda hooks you in was major for me. When I got to Chapter 5, which digs into the relational model, it totally clicked—like a lightbulb going off I wasn’t expecting. The way it breaks down primary keys and normalization isn’t boring at all; it actually felt sort of intuitive and not just textbook mumbo jumbo. Before this, I was mixing up some concepts during group projects and it stressed me out. But that chapter was like a backstage pass into how data stays neat and retrievable in databases—it reshaped how I now explain ideas in meetings. A buddy of mine who's also in IT asked for a clear example yesterday, and I had that clear-as-day explanation right from the chapter, so that rocked! Truth be told, the only hiccup is some sections get a tad long-winded, making it harder to skim quick notes before class, and a few diagrams could’ve been framed a bit better for my brain. Still, getting the book for less than usual and seeing this level of clear explanation in places made it worth picking up. I’d scream out to anyone struggling with databases not to overlook this book, especially that chapter. It’s just sitting there waiting to make stuff make sense and honestly, made me wanna actually give homework a shot with more guts. Like a legit helper on my study desk.

Needed a textbook for my course CS 302: Advanced Database Systems and found this one on a decent discount so I grabbed it. It got here really fast which was nice cause classes are already busy enough. Haven't had a chance to read much yet but the pages feel sturdy and the print looks clear, so no complaints there. It’s kinda heavy, though, so carrying it around may not be fun. I’m hoping the later chapters can keep me interested cause it seemed a bit dense at first glance—but I guess that’s the tradeoff with textbooks. Overall, might work well once I get deeper into it.
