So I stumbled onto this book because my stats teacher said it’d be helpful and since I got it for free (which was great) I figured why not? I was really stuck before, especially with how to properly do surveys and sampling in my intro stats class—it always felt confusing and murky and honestly kind of boring. When I got to Chapter 7, dealing with Sampling and Surveys, stuff actually started clicking. The examples were easy to follow and not loaded with jargon, which helped a ton because sometimes stats books just try to make things complicated for no reason. That chapter gave me one of those moments like “oh, okay that actually makes sense.” Understanding how sampling can mess with results if not done right threw a new light on the homework problems and my group project—plus, I caught myself noticing this kind of stuff when watching a news report last night, which surprised me because I normally tune out that. It made all the random terms feel less scary. What’s cool too is parts of the chapter were super detailed but didn’t go off on a million tangents, so I didn’t feel like it dragged. On the other hand, a couple diagrams felt a little cramped and could use a bit more spacing or color just to help the eyes—and honestly, making the end of sections a bit quicker would've been nice to keep the pace up. But I’m nitpicking. If you get this, check out chapter 7 early—you could totally use this bit as a real guide and refer back to it for classes or project work. I’d tell friends who get freaked out by stats to try this book, especially if they don’t wanna pay for another expensive textbook. It’s pretty straightforward stuff wrapped in a package that doesn’t make you dread the subject, which for stats, is something.
