The knowledge of soil behavior is an important issue in civil engineering. When soil is subjected to a load, there is a change in the volume of the soil due to drainage of water. A consolidation test can be performed to evaluate the compressibility of soil, so that the amount of settlement of buildings and other structures can be estimated. DS 6.6.6 contains the measurements of compressibility of 44 soil samples taken from a construction site.
The data set can be used to practice the generation and interpretation of summary statistics and graphical representations.
