Two options are available for reduction of pressure for superheated R-134a flowing steadily at 500 kPa and 40oC to a pressure of 100 kPa. In the first option, the vapor is allowed to expand through an isentropic nozzle. In the second option, a valve is used to throttle the flow down to the desired pressure.
