Georgoulis owned White Farm Equipment (WFE) from 1980 to 1985. During those years, WFE dumped its hazardous waste in a dump in Iowa owned by another company. The EPA declared the dump to be a Superfund site. It claimed Georgoulis was a responsible party and should have to contribute personally to the cleanup costs. The court found that Georgoulis did not "have any personal knowledge of the disposal practices at the dump site, or was in any way directly involved in waste disposal matters. However.Georgoulis had authority to control, and did in fact exert direct control, over many significant aspects of the ongoing operations and management of WFE." Could Georgoulis be liable?
