In 2004 Calor (T-Fal), a member of Groupe SEB of France, world€™s largest kitchen products and small appliances manufacturer, commissioned the product design firm of SeymourPowel to redesign its mid line steam iron (www.seymourpowell.com/casestudies/view/25). The market for irons was in a slump and Calor wanted to reinvigorate the market. Like its predecessor, Avantis, Aqua speed was desired to be attractive, easy to handle and ergonomic, and light, but had two additional requirements: (a) a larger hole and less-messy process for filling water in the reservoir, and (b) more stability' to reduce chance of toppling off the ironing board. Avantis, like other irons, Lad a small water hole in the front part of the handle. The result of the redesign, Aqua speed, is shown below (front and back views)47:
