In 2010 there was an explosion, fire, sinking and loss of life on board the mobile offshore drilling unit, the Deepwater Horizon, in the Gulf of Mexico. There has since been a final report issued by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE)/US Coast Guard Joint Investigation Team (JIT).
