Jim is a project manager for a large Midwestern insurance company recently assigned to get on track a project that has been executing for several months. The project is slightly behind schedule and over budget. One of the key problems has been that the project team put together for this project has experienced some turnover and has had to add new people who are unfamiliar with the project and the other team members. In addition, most of the original team members had not worked together much before they joined this team. The project requires the creation of a new application using software that the team was unfamiliar with in the beginning. The current team consists of 12 people, 4 females and 8 males, with 3 of the individuals born outside the United States. If you were Jim, what types of team-building techniques would you use to get the project back on track?
