As stated at the beginning of the chapter, initiating and maintaining relationships with others is one of the most necessary and challenging functions of human survival. Initiating and maintaining relationships with people from different cultures presents a unique set of circumstances that many people find hard to address. Having read this chapter, keep in mind that beginning a new relationship is fraught with uncertainty, which leads to anxiety. No one likes feeling anxious, but remember that anxiety is perfectly natural. So don’t let anxiety prohibit you from initiating a relationship with someone from another culture. In the next week or so, try approaching and interacting with one of your fellow students who is from a culture different from your own.
